Spain's Iberdrola and Britain's Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) will join forces to build new nuclear power stations in Britain, a spokesman for the Spanish firm said Tuesday.
The two firms will create a joint venture which will compete for contracts to build nuclear power station in Britain, he told AFP.
Britain approved the construction of a new generation of nuclear plants last January.
Iberdrola, Spain's second-largest electricity utility, operates seven nuclear power plants in Spain, either on its own or with other firms, and has been involved in the contruction of several other plants outside of Spain.
The company has a strong presence in Britain after it completed the purchase of Scottish Power in April 2007, Britain's fifth-biggest gas provider and its sixth-biggest electricity provider.
