Two generators at Russia's Kola nuclear power plant near Murmansk, in the far northwest, were shut down due to a fault in the anti-fire system, energy group Energoatom said Wednesday.
The shutdown took place late Tuesday and one of the generators went back on line Wednesday morning, the group said in a statement.
It added that capacity was currently reduced to 896 milliwatts compared with the usual 980 milliwatts.
The nuclear plant is located about 200 kilometres (125 miles) from the city of Murmansk on the Kola peninsula by the Barents Sea.
"The plant is operating in a safe and effective manner. The situation with regard to radiation at the site and in the 30-kilometre surveillance zone is normal," the group said.
The Kola nuclear plant is the main provider of electricity in the Murmansk region and in neighbouring Karelia.
