German industrial gases group Linde said Monday it would create a joint venture with the Chinese group Sinopec to provide gas to a chemical complex in the central city of Chongqing.

The new company should be set up by June and would be held in equal parts by both partners, a statement said. Initial investment would total around 50 million euros (68 million dollars).

Linde has already signed agreements with Chinese companies in the chemical and petrochemical sectors, and employs around 2,500 people in China at its own activites and through various joint ventures.
